Asset Management
Construction Project Manager
Kate Oates joined RHA in September with a unique background in both construction and affordable housing management. Prior to her role at RHA, she worked as a general contractor specializing in custom homes and remodeling, where she also served as an asset manager for affordable housing projects. Over the years, she has collaborated with developers, architects, and other professionals to bring a variety of projects to life. Her 20+ years of experience working on large portfolios has given her a deep understanding of the affordable housing industry and a keen eye for identifying solutions that others might miss. As a general contractor, she developed what she calls “x-ray vision,” enabling her to anticipate next steps in the process and troubleshoot potential issues.
Kate brings a valuable perspective to the RHA team. She has always been passionate about the importance of affordable housing, and she appreciates RHA’s dedication to putting clients first—a value that stood out to her when she joined the organization. In her new role at RHA, Kate is excited to continue using her skills to improve the agency’s housing programs and ensure that communities are provided with safe, quality homes.
Originally born and raised in Raleigh, Kate’s family has lived in the area since the 1950s. After spending a decade in California, she returned to her hometown in 2007, where she has witnessed significant growth and change in the region.
Outside of work, Kate is a self-taught chef who enjoys cooking and gardening – hobbies she missed during her time as a self-employed contractor when her schedule was often packed. Her culinary skills were honed using recipes from Marcella Hazan, whose cookbooks are credited with introducing the public in the United States to the techniques of traditional Italian cooking.
Kate also participates in a local bowling league, where she enjoys friendly competition and connecting with others. An adventurous eater, Kate is always willing to try new and unusual foods—she believes in sampling “all of the weird things” at least once.
Kate brings a wealth of experience, a practical approach to problem-solving, and a passion for affordable housing to her role at RHA. She is excited to contribute to the agency’s mission and help make a positive impact on the community. Welcome Kate!
